Crayfishparty – Midsummer celebration – Swedish fika – Countryside
On this lovely 3-day trip in the Swedish footsteps you will get all the answer about the Swedish traditions and more. Experience the most typical Swedish festival, the mysterious midsummer, when Swedes wear floral wreaths on their heads, drinking snaps and dance around a suspicious pole? And the annual “crayfish party” when Swedes eat freshly cooked crayfish under paper lanterns with funny hats on their heads. We will also experience a typical Swedish ”fika” in the beautiful Swedish countryside.
Day 1 – Crayfishing and ” Kräftskiva”
After check-in to our rooms we will get in the boats for a traditional crayfishing. The afternoon continues with preparations for the big cryfishparty and maybe a walk in the beautiful surroundings, relaxing in the warm hot tub or in the sauna. During the evening we´ll be served freshly cooked crayfish with other Swedish specialties, traditional songs, and a lot of singing, dancing and laughter
Day 2 – Countryside and Swedish” fika”
After breakfast and checkout it´s time to visit the countryside and enjoy a Swedish fika. We will make a stop at a farm, beautifully situated amongst fields and forests to enjoy their own cheese cake made from milk from the farm cows. Take the opportunity to look at products from their farm shop. The day continues with lunch at a guesthouse in a genuine environment from the early 1900´s. Here we will be served a typical dish from the region,”Raggmunk” a Swedish potato pancake fried in butter and served with fried pork and lingonberries. In late afternoon we´ll arrive to our hotel for 2 nights. Hotel Sommarhagen is located beautifully in the deep forests of the southern part of the region with several lakes and beautiful hiking trails just around the corner.
Day 3 – Midsummer celebration
Today we are going to celebrate the most important Swedish festivities of the year, Midsummer! A beautiful magical feast with flowers in your hair, dancing around the midsummer pole, folk music, dancing and a whole lot of pickled herring served with delicious new potatoes, chives and sour cream. We will start the preparations already in the morning by dressing the midsummer pole ad and making wreaths. At lunchtime we will be served a typical midsummer buffet with Swedish specialties and ”snaps” followed by the traditional dance around the midsummer pole. Learn ”the small frogs dance” and other special midsummer dances. The lunch will end with coffee and strawberry cake.
